The controversial leader made the declaration during the World Economic Forum on Africa which took place Thursday in Durban, South Africa.

When asked to comment on the global belief about Zimbabwe being the perfect example of a failed nation. Responding to the statement, Mugabe declared that his country is the most highly developed country in Africa.
'That is not true!' He started, adding that 'Zimbabwe is the most highly developed country in Africa. After South Africa, I want to see another country as highly developed.
To justify his declaration, he said:  'We have a bumper harvest,' he continued, 'not only maize but also tobacco and many other crops. We are not a poor country. If anyone wants to call us fragile, they can. You can also call America fragile,'

Thai lawyer faces 150 years in jail over royal defamation

Prawet Prapanukul, a Thai human rights lawyer could be jailed up to 150 years in prison after he was charged with a record 10 counts of royal defamation, Thai Lawyers for Human Rights said.
The 57-year-old who is a well- known critic of the law was said to have provided legal assistance to members of a political opposition group, the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship, and served as legal counsel in a high-profile royal insult case.
Appearing at a Bangkok court on Wednesday after his arrest over the weekend, he was charged with 10 counts of royal insult and three counts of breaking Section 116 of Thailand’s criminal code, the equivalent of sedition.

Speaking to Reuters, Anon Nampha of Thai Lawyers for Human Rights said: 'Prawet faces 10 counts of breaking Article 112, so that works out to up to 150 years in prison if he is found guilty,' adding that 'He also faces three separate charges of breaking Article 116 which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison for each offence.'

Although, it's yet unclear what the accused must have written or said since the authorities refused to disclose details about the charges against him, but a spokesperson from International Commission of Jurists, Mr.Kingsley Abbott criticized the authority's action saying:
'Imprisonment is never a proportionate penalty for the exercise of free expression, let alone the unthinkable possibility of 150 years.'

Italian government puts its National airline carrier, Alitalia up for sale

Italian government puts its National airline carrier, Alitalia up for sale

According to Italy's economic development minister, Carlo Calenda the government of Italy will begin accepting offers for it's struggling national carrier in the next 15 days. The airline, Alitalia has been in a downward spiral for years, and at this stage no rival has stepped forward to publicly express interest in a deal. On Tuesday, Alitalia applied to enter administration after staffers rejected a major cost-cutting plan designed to salvage the carrier.

The airline was thrown a major lifeline in 2008, when the state and a consortium formed by a number of Italian companies jumped in to save the national carrier. It was restructured again in 2014, when Etihad Airways, the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates, bought a 49% stake.

An opinion poll published by Italian newspaper La Repubblica said that 77% of Italians think the airline should be allowed to fail. Alitalia has 122 aircraft flying to 80 destinations across Italy and to international hubs.

FRSC to dismiss female officers if caught violating dress code

FRSC to dismiss female officers if caught violating dress code

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has vowed to dismiss or demote female officers if caught violating the commission's dress code. This comes a month after Rivers State Sector Commander, Andrew A Kumapayi, and other senior officers were recalled after the commander was seen at a parade cutting off the hair extension of two female corps for not abiding by the dress code rules.

Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja on the update of the case of the officers whose hair extension were cut off, FRSC Corps Marshall, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi told The Guardian that strict measures will now be applied if anyone is being caught violating commission's dress codes.

According to him, anyone found contravening the rule would be dismissed or demoted.
'If I catch any officer again dressing improperly against our dressing codes, we would de-rank her or make her face stiffer sanctions like dismissal,' he stated.
Prodding further, Oyeyemi said the commission will no longer tolerate the violation of its dress codes.
'As long as I am privileged to be the Corps Marshall, I will also not condone indiscipline or indecent dressing. It is absolute nonsense and irrational behavior for any officer to dress as if they are going to a fashion parade, for your braided hairs to be touching your waste and coming to work in a uniform organisation like this. Nobody will close his eyes to such, so all must be warned.'

Presidency reportedly invited 3 foreign doctors to treat President Buhari in Aso Rock

Presidency reportedly invited 3 foreign doctors to treat President Buhari in Aso Rock

The presidency has reportedly invited three foreign doctors, which includes two Britons to Aso Rock to treat President Buhari of his undisclosed ailment. According to Sahara Reporters, the doctors came in today. Read how Sahara Reporters is reporting it after the cut...

Three medical doctors today arrived in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, to attend to the ailing President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, SaharaReporters has learned. The doctors, all British and Caucasian, are two males and one female, according to our highly placed source at the Presidency.
Mr. Buhari, who has not made any public appearance in two weeks, is described as greatly emaciated, according to two sources knowledgeable about his condition. Despite statements by the government a few days that the president had “resumed work,” Mr. Buhari remains holed up in his official residence.
Apprehension within the Presidential Villa about the president’s condition was heightened yesterday as the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, was seen moving a lot of documents out of the villa. Our sources said it was unclear why Mr. Kyari made the move to take away documents to an unknown location.
A Presidency source told SaharaReporters that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has set up a “safe house” in Abuja where Mr. Buhari is being treated by a relay of mostly foreign doctors. Even though President Buhari and his aides have refused to divulge the nature of his ailment, SaharaReporters learned several months ago that the Nigerian leader is ravaged by Crohn’s Disease, an intestinal disorder.
He is also known to have prostate issues as well as age-related disorders, including early-stage dementia. Mr. Buhari’s official age is listed as 74, but he is widely believed to be much older. One of our sources disclosed that Mr. Buhari was slated to leave Nigeria on May 10 for another medical trip to Britain.
However, the arrival today of a new set of medical doctors to attend to him might be a further attempt by a cabal of some of his closest associates to frustrate his departure from Nigeria.
Some members of the Buhari administration accuse the cabal of opposing Mr. Buhari’s foreign medical trip for fear that his absence would cost them political influence.
SaharaReporters learned that no “advance team” of aides has yet left Nigeria to prepare for Mr. Buhari’s arrival in London, another sign that members of the president’s inner circle, who pull the strings in his administration, continue to oppose such a trip.
In an apparent attempt to reduce pressure on themselves, the cabal last week allowed Mr. Buhari’s wife, Aisha, to have access to funds to cater for her husband. They also persuaded her to draft a series of tweets asserting that the president’s health was not as bad as perceived. However, our sources described Aisha Buhari and other family members as frustrated and sober over Mr. Buhari’s slow pace of recuperation. In addition, the cabal around the president arranged for Mr. Buhari to make phone calls to a number of persons, including businessman Aliko Dangote and some political aides and friends. However, sources close to some of the recipients of the phone calls said the calls did not last more than 30 seconds each. On Monday, Attorney General Abubakar Malami and the Group Managing Director of Nigeria’s National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Baru Marikanti, claimed they held extensive meetings with Mr. Buhari to discuss a range of issues.
However, no videos or photographs were produced of the ostensible meetings. Twenty-four hours after Mr. Malami claimed he had met the president, Mr. Buhari failed to attend the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, the fourth consecutive time he was absent at the gathering where a number of policy initiatives are discussed. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who presided at the meeting, apologized for Mr. Buhari’s absence, telling ministers that the president could not make it to the meeting because his doctors had advised him to “rest.”

Republicans pass bill to repeal and replace Obamacare

Republicans pass bill to repeal and replace Obamacare

President Donald Trump has finally won. The House today voted to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as the ObamaCare. Read the report from CNN below...
The bill now heads to the Senate where it faces daunting challenges because of the same ideological splits between conservative and moderate Republicans that nearly killed it in the House.
Trump said he is confident the bill will pass the Senate, calling Obamacare "essentially dead."
"This is a great plan. I actually think it will get even better. This is a repeal and replace of Obamacare. Make no mistake about it," Trump said at a celebratory White House appearance with House Republicans.
After a dramatic week of negotiations, lobbying from Trump and Republican leaders, the vote ended with 217 GOP lawmakers backing the measure. Twenty Republicans opposed it, as did all House Democrats.
Democrats were unable to stop the GOP vote aimed at President Barack Obama's signature legislative achievement. But after the final vote was cast, they chanted "nah nah nah nah hey hey hey goodbye" to their Republican colleagues, with a few members waving, as they believe the vote will lead to many GOP lawmakers losing their seats in the November 2018 midterms.
Thursday marks a political milestone -- one that has painfully eluded Trump and House leaders for months. The controversial health care bill delivered Trump the biggest political defeat of his short presidency in March, when the legislation had to be yanked from the House floor because it simply didn't have enough support.

Chilling story of how some secondary school boys molested their female colleagues in Ikoyi in broad daylight

Chilling story of how some secondary school boys molested their female colleagues in Ikoyi in broad daylight

A group of male students of the Falomo Senior High School in Ikoyi, Lagos state are currently on the run after they allegedly molested female students of Ireti Grammer school yesterday May 3rd.

According to residents of the area who confirmed the incident to a LIB reporter today, the male students had just finished their final year exams and were leaving their school premises when they saw the female students who were also leaving their school premises at the same time.

The boys who were excited that they were done with secondary school, decided that the best way to express their joy was to molest the girls in broad daylight.

The boys who were armed with scissors, cornered some of the girls, ripped their skirt with the scissor, pushed them to the floor, pulled their trousers mid length and then climbed on the girls. Some of their colleagues surrounded them and cheered them on.

It took the intervention of some of the residents of the area to stop the boys from further molesting the girls. The girls who were frightened to go home, were escorted to the bus stop by some able bodied men in the area.

When LIB visited the schools today, police presence was seen. No one was allowed to enter into the school.

LIB will keep you updated.

Meanwhile, below is an account of the incident written by Facebook user...

Dear Reader,
I write this incidence with lots of mortification and great concern for what the next generation will be like in Nigeria if we do not quickly get to work repairing and paying them attention. Our elders have led their lives and we the generation who follow the baby boomers must hunker down and correct the ills in our back yards and community. It's a common saying that evil prevails when good men do nothing. Today the 3rd of May 2017, I almost saw this evil happen. 'Almost' because I got so moved in my spirit with great indignation that I decided to speak up.

I am in my office about 4pm waiting for my driver to bring my older son from school so we can get home on time to prepare the younger one for his common entrance exams into secondary school coming up in two weeks. I called the driver and he said he was around and as I leave my nieces office upstairs, I hear a lot of shouting and commotion outside our office. I then ask the receptionist what it was about and he says it's the secondary school student who have finished their final exams tearing their clothes. I mumble to my self that if any of them were my children I will deal with them. As they don't earn money so how can they tear what was bought for them.
Suffice to say I give my older son who is helping me with my bags that speech and we head out into the car. As we come outside the noise is overwhelming and as my son kept saying when we were later discussing what happened, he described it as being very intense when we had a chance to discuss the events that followed as people were running and upon my looking closer I saw pockets of people actually students and then girls running with palpable fear in their faces. At this point I quickly enter my car to leave so one doesn't meet what ever the problem was and to avoid traffic too. And as we entered the car and I look a bit closely at a crowd of boys who have surrounded two persons on the floor who appear to be fighting. Their shouting overpowers any other sound and looking closely I see the most unreal thing. It's actually a boy trying to force himself on a girl with his trousers partly down and the boys are cheering him on.
People are looking and some persons the security guards in the office near us are recording it. I open my car in disbelief and shout on the boys to break it up while shouting at my security and the second driver to assist me. I walk towards them and as I make my way towards them I see another group and this time they have cornered one of the the girls who fell while running from them. In almost a surreal way I am looking but not quickly processing. I see her kicked down, she bravely pushes her self up and another guy tries to clear her legs and she lunges at him and then a guy takes a pair of scissors in his hands and with one swoop tears her skirt from the bottom and also a part of the black spanx shorts she has on underneath. All this happens really in a few minutes and he proceeds to push himself into her through her back. His trousers is open too and another one tries to do same from the front. As this is going on the crowd of boys are wild with frenzy, cheering the two boys on, while grabbing at her hair, breasts and she is fighting for dear life. I am still making my way towards the first group but they bolt when they see me coming and when I see them do so I move ahead and rush towards the second group this time shouting at the top of my lungs at my own office security, the office next door and thankfully mine follow me and when they see us coming they break up and run but there more girls running back. I reach the girl and we gather her things together. She ties the torn skirt around her spanx shorts like a wrapper and holds onto to me.

I see the boys have run forwards and stopped, waiting for me to enter my car while threatening other teenage school girls still. I have a crowd of over 25 girls huddled together frantically telling me their various ordeal. I ask them to take another route back and am told if the go back from where they are coming there is another group behind and the our office road is a crescent so they are technically locked in. And most of them have their skirts ripped as they claim the boys in the various groups have scissors on them. Further questioning tells me the best way is to go out is towards the other side but since they are too scared to go I ask my security, some other men have come out to escort them too, with myself as the only adult female and there begins over an hours walk towards the obalende roundabout from off awolowo road in Ikoyi. We meet other girls who have had their clothes ripped as the boys fled once the boys realized I was not backing up. The boys would reach a distance and stop to taunt the girls. We now had a crowd of over 60 girls who needed to get safely to the bus stop and find their way home. We ( being myself and the other men escorting the girls) start talking about how to get hold of one of the boys so we can use him as an example. At this point I call a friend and ask for a Mopol to be sent to me. I describe my location. My attention is drawn to another girl who had just been manhandled by the fleeing boys. A woman warns the girls to beware as the boys have spilt up and are waiting as some live in that locality. We then break into three groups to escort the girls to their various bus or home points. I take the two girls whom I saw personally manhandled and begin to make careful inquiries.

Feedback shows that they go to a senior high school called Falomo Senior High School next to Ireti grammar school that these boys go to. Today was both schools final day after which they will come only to collect their results from Wednesday of the following week so the boys who had already started raping some girls last week now planned this brazen rape and manhandling activity. They had also stolen their phones and transport money. We then made arrangements to transport them home. By now the mopol has come. He walks me to obalende under bridge to put the two girls and their friends going to Yaba into a bus. This is not before I get the names of the boys as George and Abiodun as the main perpetrators, they are final year students of Ireti Grammar School SW Ikoyi. I call a friend and am told to take pictures but most of the girls have gone but we are able to take pictures of at least 7 girls with me who had torn clothes in various stages of disarray. I give my number to the only girl left with a phone and this was because she put it into her spanx shorts as she wore two and used one to roll her phone into it. I am amazed at this whole thing and we agree that they should come through to my office on Wednesday of the following week but I will go ahead and make a report to the two schools tomorrow and begin finding these evil boys so we can use them as examples to deter other from this abominable behavior perpetrated in broad day light. One of the girls says she can identify them. She gives me her number. I ask my security to ensure he receives them at 9am when we agreed to meet. I turn and leave but I will never be the same again. The evil is terrible.

The lack of regard and the indignity. My mind runs through and is still running through all I have seen. I have a friend who normally stops to help distressed persons or attend to traffic situation and I always warn him to desist and he will say someone has to do it. Today I am most grateful I was that someone. I had other people join me especially a man who saw me and said madam a girl was raped last week by this office. Am tired of this. Removed his tie and followed me. They stayed with me till the last set of kids entered the bus and as they came so they left when we got done. I did not get to say thank you to them. My older son was like mum, they must be angels or Jesus. Actually he said the man that followed me first must be Jesus. I don't know who he was but if he ever reads this post my heartfelt thank you to him for that large hearted action. God is kind oh, that there are still good men but we must speak up and as such I am following up to ensure we do something collectively to help the boys of this school as I believe mentoring is required if this cycle is to be broken but the ones who committed this dastardly act must be brought to book first. I ask those in authority to look into this as I am told it's quite prevalent.

God bless Nigeria and we all have a part in ensuring the blessing

Michael Matthew.
